Pengguna tak lagi boleh sesumbar bahwa perangkatnya kebal virus. Sebuah virus merangkap worm sudah berhasil menyerang platform OS X, sistem operasi pilihan pada Mac sejak januari lalu. Virus ini menyebar via software iWorks '09 ilegal dan juga Adobe Photoshop CS4 for Mac. Sekitar 5000 Mac sudah berhasil di infeksikannya.
Untungnya virus Mac ini amatiran. Kendati mencoba mencuri alamat e-mail, merekam ketukan kunci (keystroke), dan mengirim dirinya sendiri via har diskyang terpasang, trojan yang dibuat dalam realbasic ini tidak mampu menyebar secara mandiri. Dijuluki Tored, worm yang merangkap trojan ini diyakini adalah botnet Mac pertama.
Virus ini mungkin adalah trojan "e-mail aware" pertama yang menyerang Mac. Beberapa tahun lalu memang ada beberapa trojan khas apple, tetapi tampaknya yang satu ini adalah virus pertama yang juga berulah worm. kendati tidak berbahaya, prilakunya mencerminkan jenis serangan baru pada platform Mac.
Berita bagusnya, Tored bukanlah ancaman yang sangat serius, dan mungkin tidak akan ada yang mengalaminya. Ancaman yang lebih serius bagi pengguna Mac ada adalah Trojan yang ditanamkan pada website yang menawarkan unduhan menarik.
